Elim Sritaba, Chief Sustainability Officer, Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), participated in a Food System High-Level Event on 22 September 2024 at the UN Headquarters. Leaders from the private sector, governments, the United Nations, and civil society convened at the UN Global Compact to accelerate corporate action in transforming food systems, a critical initiative to foster global sustainable and equitable food practices.
Over 60 representatives participated in the meeting that focused on pathways for enhancing accountability and engagement ahead of the upcoming UN Food Systems Summit+4 and COP30. The initiative recognizes businesses’ significant role in shaping food production and distribution, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices to reduce environmental impacts, improve food security, and support fair labour and resilient supply chains. As UN Global Compact Executive Director Sanda Ojiambo articulated, this collective action seeks to guide companies and financial institutions in aligning their operations with SDGs, ensuring a transformative impact on global food systems.
