UN Global Compact Network Indonesia (IGCN) successfully hosted a pivotal feasibility study meeting, bringing together representatives from UN Global Compact Networks in Brazil (Pacto Global – Rede Brasil), Colombia (Pacto Global Colombia), and Kenya (Global Compact Network Kenya – GCNK) from October 28 to 30, 2024. This meeting represents a major step forward in the establishment of the first-ever Global South Think Lab on Sustainable Food Systems, set to be officially launched in September 2025 during the United Nations General Assembly.
The three-day discussions focused on fostering collaboration across regions, sharing insights, and identifying innovative solutions to address challenges in food systems within the Global South. The Think Lab will serve as a platform for governments, businesses, and civil society to work together in transforming food systems to be more sustainable, equitable, and resilient.
On the final day, we were honored to welcome a representative from Indonesia’s Research Center for Sustainable Production and LCA Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN), leaders from MODENA, Musim Mas Group, and APP Group. Their insights on overcoming local food system challenges through collaborative action further strengthened our vision.
Our shared commitment to transforming food systems for a sustainable future will drive this initiative forward. Stay tuned as we move closer to creating a lasting impact in the Global South.
