On November 1, Indonesia Global Compact Network in collaboration with UN Global Compact held a Stakeholders Consultation Breakfast with the theme “Scaling the Global Impact for Sustainable Ocean Business”. The event was held at Grand City Restaurant & Banquet Hall, 6th Floor, Manhattan Hotel Jakarta which was attended by agencies from various sectors such as Government, UN Institutions, Business, and Business Associations. This event aims to introduce the programs of the Ocean Stewardship Coalition as well as open discussion space for various agencies for the opportunity to establish a local Ocean Stewardship Center in Indonesia.
At this event, the invitees followed the discussions and presentations while enjoying breakfast. The event was opened by welcoming remarks by Josephine Satyono as Executive Director of IGCN who introduced the scope of work of IGCN and the importance of collaboration between parties in achieving SDG’s goals. In addition, Dr. Vivi Yulaswati as Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources, Ministry of National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia/Bappenas also delivered her remarks conveying government support for parties that help achieve the goals of the long-term development plan and SDG’s.
The event was then continued by presentations from Karan Sawhney as Senior Project Manager – Ocean, UN Global Compact Ocean Stewardship Coalition, and Dr. Randhi Satria. In this presentation, Karan introduced the work of the Ocean Stewardship Coalition and the establishment of the Ocean Stewardship Centers. Meanwhile, Dr. Randhi Satria conveyed the potential of Indonesia’s maritime empowerment from various aspects ranging from political, and economic, to social.
After the presentation, the event continued with the Multi-stakeholder Ocean Roundtable Discussion moderated by Karan Sawhney. The discussion for approximately 15 minutes presented many insights and perspectives of business actors from various sectors regarding their readiness and commitment related to maritime in line with the goals of the Ocean Stewardship Coalition. Finally, the event was then closed by Y.W. Junardy as President of IGCN who concluded the path forward for the Ocean Stewardship Center in Indonesia and all stakeholders in the ocean community.
