ASIA-PACIFIC TRAINING FOR EFFECTIVE DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION 2023
The Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) introduces its Monitoring Exercise to gather key evidence, focusing on multi-stakeholder participation, data collection, and results dissemination. This process encourages strategic reflection, dialogue, and action for more effective development cooperation. It’s based on the Busan Partnership Agreement outlines four globally accepted principles for effective development cooperation: country ownership, results-oriented focus, inclusive partnerships, and transparency with mutual accountability.
Since 2011, three monitoring rounds have involved over 100 partner country governments, development partners, and other stakeholders. Building on past achievements, the GPEDC Summit 2022 in Geneva launched a new monitoring framework. The ongoing 4th Monitoring Round is vital to the GPEDC’s 2023-2026 Work Programme, employing innovative data collection methods and new measurements to track progress on development effectiveness commitments. With the new monitoring exercise rolling out in 2023, data continues to contribute to official reporting on select SDGs 5 and 17 indicators, showcasing how principle-based development cooperation accelerates progress at the country level.
Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN) has been participating in this significant initiative, and contributing to the diverse group of 29 participants. The IGCN joins Mr. Vitalice Meja, Non-Executive Co-Chair of the GPEDC, representatives from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Jordan, Lao PDR, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Timor Leste, Tonga, Vietnam, and Indonesian organizations representing Civil Society (INFID, YAKKUM) and the Private Sector (APINDO, KADIN).
The training occurred from November 29th to December 1st, 2023, in Solo, Indonesia, delivered by the OECD/UNDP Joint Support Team of the GPEDC to 29 participants. Over three days, participants engaged in workshop discussions to foster peer-to-peer learning, developing a comprehensive understanding of the Global Partnership monitoring process and framework. They reflected on ways to enhance the effectiveness of development cooperation in their respective countries.
The event opened with remarks from Mr. Hendra Prabandani, Director for Foreign Policy and International Development Cooperation at BAPPENAS, followed by statements from GPEDC Co-Chairs: Ms. Marie Ottoson from Sweden (via video), Mrs. Judith Suminwa Tuluka from the Democratic Republic of Congo (via video), and Mr. Vitalice Meja from Reality of Aid Africa.
