Global Happiness

The pursuit of happiness is considered as the ultimate goal of human development. When everyone living their higher purpose, they are being the best version of themselves in accordance to the world around them. People are now recognizing that ‘purpose’ should be about increasing human happiness and wellbeing, not just growing the economy. To celebrate the happiness, United Nation has established March 20 as the International Day of Happiness and all 193 United Nations member states have adopted a resolution calling for happiness to be given greater priority.

In Indonesia, there were a few events to commemorate International Day of Happiness, among others were Happiness Festival, and Happy Brain at Work seminar.  Through Happiness Festival that was held on 31 March – 1 April 2018 at Taman Menteng, Jakarta, Prof. Mari Elka Pangestu, Presiden United in Diversity, invited public to learn more in practicing the ‘three ways to be happy’, namely the maintenance of harmony between people with each other, the environment, and the spiritual based on the Happiness Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Pyramid.

“Happiness Festival is here to introduce the ‘three ways to be happy’. We believe that the root causes of our country, such as poverty, hunger, pollution to inequality can be gradually restored if we as citizens can help the government maintain harmony between people, the environment and the spiritual” said Prof. Mari Elka Pangestu.

In addition, the Happiness Festival introduced a lot of real action that is practically easy to do in keeping harmony with these three elements and if all is consistent in doing so, then it will bring big changes.

Align with this idea, The Association of Synergy Applied Neurosciences Indonesia (SINTESA) held Happy Brain at Work Seminar to create positive, optimistic, and creative attitude in the work place on 12 April, at Aston Kuningan, Jakarta.

Through this opportunity, Lyra Puspa, Master Coach and Founder of Vanaya International Coaching, addressed that happy attitude is essential in the face of disruption era. Disruption has at least two meanings in our brain, i.e. alert (alert) or overwhelmed (overwhelmed). Happiness is created by oneself. And self-created happiness can be transmitted to people in the immediate environment, especially within a company. “In the disruptive era, the brain responds differently, resulting in different attitudes and actions,” said Lyra.

Indira Abidin, VP Communication of IGCN and General Secretary of SINTESA who were also speaking in this Seminar shared that being happy does not benefit a positive thing in terms of feelings alone, but also useful for improving the work of the brain. “Simply by working to produce something good can definitely help improve our brain work”, she added.

Holding on to the Happiness SDGs PyramidJosephine Satyono, Executive Director of IGCN also present in the Seminar to provide a more in-depth explanation about the balance of ‘People’, ‘Ecology’, and ‘Spiritual’ to obtain happiness for all.

Two other speakers who are corporate leaders such as Herni Lukitomo, Chief Happiness Officers of Darya Varia Laboratories Indonesia, and Mardi Wu, President Director Nutrifood, shared how caring companies can create happiness at work and develop creative, productive, and dedicated team to create sustainable future of the winning companies.

The seminar was participated by many prominent figures and high level corporate officers who showed big interest in the happiness topic.
