BCRWG Annual Gathering: Exploring the Intersection of Business, Children’s Rights, and the Digital Age with a Focus on Supporting Children with Disabilities and Online Safety

UN Global Compact Indonesia (IGCN), as part of the Business and Children’s Rights Working Group (BCRWG), gathered for its Annual Gathering on Tuesday, 26 November 2024. This year’s theme spotlighted the intersection of business, children’s rights, and the digital age, with a special emphasis on supporting children with disabilities and safeguarding children online.

The event featured two insightful sessions:

a. Session 1: Business and The Most Vulnerable Children
Speakers:

– Hendra Warsita – Founder & CEO, PT. Digniti Aku Nusantara (DignityKu)

Moderated by Keumala Dewi, Executive Director of PKPA.

b. Session 2: Children and the ICT Sector
Experts:
– Andy Ardian – Koordinator Nasional, ECPAT Indonesia
– Lukita Setiyarso – Partnership Officer, UNICEF Indonesia
– Prof. Dr. Harya Widiputra, S.T., M.Kom., IPM – Guru Besar FTI & WR Akademik, Perbanas Institute

– Fernando Simanjuntak – Anggota, Barisan Pemuda Adat Nusantara
Moderated by Fandy Zulmi, Program Manager, PKPA Indonesia.

The event concluded with a Special Highlight on GC27 Access to Justice and Remedy – BCRWG’s Action Plan for 2025, facilitated by Dr. Ina A. Murwani, M.M., MBA, from BINUS Business School, and Lukita Setiyarso from UNICEF. The gathering was closed by Bu Wida Septarina Wijayanti, Ketua APSAI.

Key discussions included:
a. The role of businesses in creating inclusive products and environments for children with disabilities.
b. Strategies to protect children from online risks, including privacy breaches and exploitation.
c. Collaborative approaches to ensuring equal access to education and digital safety.
