Leadership Beyond Compliance: Creating Value through Integrity
Jakarta, 5 December 2024
Main Hall, Indonesia Stock Exchange Building
Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav. 52-53. Jakarta, DKI Jakarta 12190
Overview
The UN Global Compact Network Indonesia (IGCN) is dedicated to promoting sustainable business practices by advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact. In June this year, the UN Global Compact marked the 20th anniversary of its 10th Principle on Anti-Corruption, reinforcing its commitment to encouraging businesses to uphold integrity. As businesses play a pivotal role in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, IGCN calls on companies to go beyond compliance, creating value through integrity in areas such as environmental impact, labor standards, gender equality, and anti-corruption.
Despite efforts, global progress towards the 2030 Agenda is behind by 85%, with Indonesia behind by 38% of the targets. This underscores the need to accelerate SDG implementation. A study by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) reveals that while some SDGs receive significant attention from businesses, others — equally critical — require greater focus and action. In response to these challenges, IGCN focuses its efforts on three key thematic areas:
- Better Living Environment: Focusing on environmental sustainability, including climate, air quality, water and waste management (circularity), ocean stewardship, and sustainable food systems.
- Inclusive and Resilient Business: Promoting practices that support labor rights, gender equality, and human rights.
- Governance, Partnership, and Policy Advocacy: Encouraging robust governance frameworks, fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships, and engaging with government entities to advocate for transparent public policy, including but not limited to anti-corruption.
The “Responsible Business Forum” will dive into these focus areas, providing a dynamic platform for Indonesian businesses to exchange best practices, knowledge, and innovative approaches. With the theme, “Leadership Beyond Compliance: Creating Value Through Integrity“, the forum will showcase how companies can go beyond regulatory requirements to build trust and drive sustainable value. Featuring distinguished speakers and industry leaders, the forum will offer actionable insights on advancing the 2030 Agenda, with a strong emphasis on anti-corruption as a fundamental element of ethical governance.
Objective
- Enhance knowledge and awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Global Compact Ten Principles, particularly emphasizing the importance of anti-corruption measures (Principle 10th) and its relation to other principles.
- Share successful case studies and best practices from leading companies on how they have integrated sustainability and anti-corruption measures into their business strategies and operations.
- Provide a platform for dialogue and collaboration among businesses, government agencies, academia, civil society, and other stakeholders to foster partnerships and collective action towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
- Equip participants with practical tools, strategies, and frameworks to implement sustainable practices and robust governance, addressing key areas covered in the Ten Principles.
Audience
The Responsible Business Forum 2024 is aimed at a distinguished audience, including UN Global Compact participants, publicly listed companies, government officials, UN agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and academic institutions.
